Welcome to Hyacinth Montessori
Serving children in grades 1-6
Hyacinth Montessori is a child-centered and equity-focused Montessori elementary school serving children ages 6-12.
The Montessori method is a time-tested educational approach predicated on respect for children and hands-on learning. It is interdisciplinary and personalized, creating an individualized pathway for each child.
A Montessori classroom environment invites curiosity and discovery. It is filled with light, natural materials, carefully designed and beautiful learning tools, and the busy work of children.
At Hyacinth, we build upon the long legacy of educators who envision Montessori as a liberatory pedagogy. We live into this philosophy by creating a school accessible to families from all socioeconomic backgrounds, in which children are supported, challenged, and affirmed.
We are located in West Philadelphia.
We are now accepting applications for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years.
The needs of mankind are universal. Our means of meeting them create the richness and diversity of the planet. The Montessori child should come to relish the texture of that diversity.
- Dr. Maria Montessori
An Authentic Montessori School
The Montessori Method emerges from the belief that children are naturally good, peaceful and curious and that in the context of a supportive environment, all children engage instinctively in the work of self-construction. With appropriate freedoms and the right support, children follow their interests to create rich learning experiences, form peaceful communities, and support and learn from one another. We are dedicated to the preparation of environments and ourselves to support the development of children.
An Intentionally Small Community
As an intentionally small, community embedded learning environment, our school allows us to serve every child and family in deep and meaningful partnership with their teacher leaders.
A Place for All
Hyacinth Montessori admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
